Tour description
This route is a journey to the origins of faith, wine and ancient history of Armenia.
The first stop is Khor Virap, one of the most iconic places in the country. The monastery is located at the foot of Mount Ararat and is connected with the history of St. Gregory the Illuminator, who spent 13 years in confinement here. It is from here that the closest and most impressive view of Ararat opens.
Then the path leads to the Areni region - the heart of Armenian winemaking. Here you will find a wine tour with a tasting, where you will get acquainted with local grape varieties and traditions that date for thousands of years.
Next you will visit the Bird Cave (Areni-1) - a unique archaeological site, where the oldest winery in the world was discovered, as well as the oldest leather shoes, more than 5,500 years old. Household items and traces of life of people who lived in these lands thousands of years ago have been preserved here.
The completion of the route will be the Noravank Monastery, an architectural masterpiece of the XIII century, located among the red rocks of the picturesque gorge. This is one of the most photogenic places in Armenia, especially beautiful in the rays of the setting sun.
This tour is ideal for those who want to combine spirituality, gastronomy and impressive landscapes in one day.
